Once upon a time, there was a man called Mangbya (a person who is good at telling lies is named Mangbya). Mangbya could lie very well. Therefore, his new was spread all the other places. When Mangbya visited a village, the villagers said, "Mangbya, we heard that you are good at telling lies. Can you tell us a lie?" They requested Mangbya. At the same time, they were making Htamane (a kind of delicacy which is made of glutinous rice, oil, sesamum, and groundnut). Mangbya replied, "When I lie to you, you will get angry at me." However, the villagers didn't accept and said, "Just tell a lie to us. We will listen to you." "No. You will be angry," Mangbya replied. But the villagers still insisted. So, Mangbya told a lie at last. He walked to a river. When he got there, he exploded dynamite in the water. He put the firewood in the middle of the basket and place the fish around the firewood. After packing, he carried the basket and walked back to the village like the basket was so heavy. When he arrived at the village, the villagers asked, "Mangbya, where did you get fish?" "Many fishes are drifting down the river. There are many. I could bring just some fish. There are loads of fish. You can catch as much as you want" Mangbya answered. The villagers trusted what he said. So, they went to the river. After the villagers had gone, Mangbya ate the whole pot of Htamane. As soon as he finished eating, the villagers arrived back to the village. "You told us a good lie. What you said is not true. There aren't many fishes," the villagers complained. Then, Mangbya said, "You asked me to tell a lie. So, I lied to you." And Mangbya left the village and continued his journey. This time, he went on a journey together with his friend. On the way, his friend said, "My friend, Mangbya, I want to have beef. We don't have one, but the old man has." Mangbya replied, "My friend, don't worry! If you want to have beef, just follow me." At a place, they saw an old man who was clearing the grass in the field with a grub hoe. "Grandpa, please borrow us your cow. We will help you with cleaning the grass." They requested again and again. Even though the old man said that he could do that alone, Mangbya still insisted to help him. Thus, the old man said, "Ok then, help this older man." As soon as he said that, Mangbya and his friend started cleaning the grass. After a few hours, the old man said, "I will go and prepare the food for you," and walked to the house. While the old man was cooking the meal, Mangbya cut off the cow's tail and urged his friend to take the cow away. His friend also dragged the cow to the forest. Then, Mangbya buried the tail in the mud. But he pulled half of it and said, "Grandpa, this cow goes into the mud. It's drowning in." As soon as the old man heard it, he ran out of the house. "Grandpa, your cow dived into the mud," Mangbya said. So, they pulled it out together. And they could pluck only tail. They couldn't pull out the cow. "What is happening in the field today? How could the soil swallow my cow?" the old man said sadly. "How long have you used this land as a field?" Mangbya asked. "Seven years. It's been seven years I use it for planting," the old man replied. Then, Mangbya lied, "Grandpa, the land always swallows a cow in seven years." After that, Mangbya left the old man. And he walked to his friend. When Mangbya found his friend, he was chopping the meat. Mangbya said, "Give some meat to me!" "You just stayed behind. You let me take the cow and run away. I am so tired of cutting up the cow. You shouldn't get the share," his friend said. Mangbya replied, "Then, don't give me the meat. Just give me the bladder." His friend also gave it. Mangbya took it and went to the top of the mountain. His friend grilled the meat and ate alone. Mangbya poured out the urine in the bladder and he beat it till it became a big balloon. When he arrived at the top of the mountain, he hit it on a rock. It made a loud noise. At the same time, he yelled, "Arrrr! The one who stole the cow is not me. It's my friend, Mangbya." He hit the big bladder on the rock again. "Arrr! It's not me. Mangbya stole the cow. It's not me!" he cried. When his friend heard the noise, he thought that Mangbya was arrested. So, he also ran from that place. He left the beef behind. Therefore, Mangbya could eat the beef that his friend left. After eating, Mangbya continued his journey. He stopped at a place and sat down there. While he was picking a pile of cow shit, a man passed by. When the man saw it, he asked, "Friend, what is it?" "This is a seat that you should never sit on," Mangbya replied. "Why can't I sit on it? Let me try!" the man said. "No, you shouldn't sit," Mangbya replied. But the man denied to him. And he sat on it. Since Mangbya was also wicked, he set a stick up in the cow shit. It was a pointed stick. The man sat on the pile of cow shit, and his bottom was poked. He felt such pain and immediately chased after Mangbya. At a place, Mangbya found a centipede. Mangbya and the man together looked down the centipede which stayed peacefully. Then, the man asked, "What is it, my friend?" Mangbya replied, "This is a golden bracelet. My grate grandparents gave it to me." Mangbya lied that it was a golden bracelet but it shouldn't be worn. "Let me try it on," the man said. "Don't wear it. It's so precious," Mangbya replied. However, the man kept insisting. "Ok. So, wear it only when I yell to wear," Mangbya said. After that, he ran away. When he got to a far place, he hollered, "Wear it now!" Once the man heard it, he tried it on his wrist. And the centipede bit him. So, the man ran after again since Mangbya lied to him once more. Thus, he followed him straight away. At a distance place, Mangbya caught a lamb. He cuddled with the lamb and took a short rest. After a while, he continued his journey again. On the way, he met with the Goddess of the sun. She held a horse race. She used a kind of flying horse, Pegasus. It's called Myin Pyan in Burmese. The Goddess of the sun announced that the one who won would get the Pegasus as the prize. Mangbya also heard about the contest. "Ok. I challenge the king of this country to compete with me," Mangbya declared. The path for the competition was constructed in a round shape. And the winning post was set up in one place. And they started the running contest. Mangbya was good not only at telling lies but also at running. After counting one, two, three, Mangbya was still sitting by holding the lamb. But when the Pegasus started flying, he also held the lamb and ran. He put the lamb at the winning post and let it sit there. At that time, the Pegasus flew down from the sky. Then, the Goddess said, "The greatest Pegasus in the world of the sun is not as fast as your lamb. Why could your lamb move so fast? It is a kind of domestic animal. It cannot be used in work. Why can it run so fast?" And the Goddess wanted to possess that lamb. Therefore, she said, "Let's exchange our rides to go to the world of the sun. Let's switch my Pegasus and your lamb." Mangbya replied, "My lamb is afraid of your royal costume. You only can wear Mangbya costume." He gave the tattered clothes, Mangbya costume, to the Goddess. And Mangbya wore the royal costume. Before they flew up, they counted one, two, three. Mangbya, who wore the royal costume, flew up first. On the other hand, the Goddess who dressed in tattered clothes couldn't move even after counting one, two, three. Although she yelled, "Hurry up!" the lamb didn't move. The lamb didn't walk. However, she could reach to her country at last since she was the Goddess. Mangbya arrived at the country, the world of the sun first. The people from the country didn't notice that he was the fake king. "Soon, Mangbya will arrive here. That person is really good at lying. You have to kill him. Even he lied to me," he ordered the people. Since the Goddess also couldn't command the lamb, she went up to her country by herself. When the Goddess reached there, she was killed by her people. They thought that the Goddess was Mangbya. They also believed that there was no more Mangbya in the country of the sun. But their king was actually Mangbya. Therefore, when the sun is shining, it sometimes rains. It is not possible that the liars are completely disappeared from the world. This story was begun and ended in the sun.
