Title Myit magaw ai hte myit malang ai (The honest and the dishonest) with English translation
Description Translation (Gun Mai)
The title of this story is honest and dishonest. Long long ago, there were two men. Their names were - one was called Nhkang Gam and he was a dishonest (it also means curve in Jinghpaw language) man and another man was called Mawun Tu. Mawun Tu was an honest (it also means 'straight' in Jinghpaw language) man. One day, they accidentally met in a place. They met when they were going on a journey. They had an agreement. They had the agreement and agreed to go for the journey. Their commitment was that 'If anyone is wrong, the eyes of the wrong person will be pierced. Let's pierce the eyes. If I am wrong, you pierce my eyes and if you are wrong, I will pierce your eyes. You are honest/straight man and I am dishonest/curve man." They had a commitment to know whether the honesty/straight was good or the dishonesty/curve was good and they went for their journey. When they were travelling together, they got to a place. The place was in a paddy field. In the paddy field, they met with the people who were harvesting because it was the time to harvest and they were holding sickles. Nhkang Gam then said to Mawun Tu that "Brother-in-law, Mawun Tu, do you see the curve sickles that have been using to harvest the paddies. You know that the curve thing is better. I will pierce your eyes." "Brother-in-law, please give me one more favour. Let's continue to go the journey" Mawun Tu said. Nhkang Gam said that "OK," and they continued their journey. They also got to a stream and there was a man who was fishing in the stream. They saw the man when the man was detaching the fish. Thus, when they saw it, Nhkang Gam said to Mawun Tu after they crossed the stream that "The curve thing is better. Right, brother-in-law? You see the hook is curved so that it can catch the fish. That's why people need to be dishonest/curve. The curve thing is better. I will pierce your eyes now. I will pierce with my knife." So, Nhkang Gam was taking out his knife to pierce the eyes of Mawun Tu. But, at that time, a big tiger from the jungle suddenly arrived between them so they also immediately ran away. The honest man, Mawun Tu ran straight. But, the dishonest man, Nhkang Gam ran through a zig-zag way when he ran away. Thus, the tiger was waiting in a zig-zag place and easily caught and ate Nhkang Gam. Since Mawun Tu was honest and ran away straightly, he was free from the danger of Tiger. Therefore, between the dishonesty/curve and honesty/straight, the honesty/straight thing is better.
