Acknowledgements:
My wife Barbara & the kids for allowing me to pursue a passion that takes me away from home many times. It’s not possible to make it without you.
David Bridie for believing in the ‘wantoks’ & opening doors of opportunities (not forgetting raiding the fridge anytime)
Airileke Ingram for tirelessly working thru all of this.
Anna Ingram & ‘the shorty mob’ for putting up with all the late night arrivals & keeping me company away from home.
Johnny Phillips for allowing us to track at RMIT studio. Some tracking at David Bridie’s studio, the Enormodome.
Artin.....& Rob Zugaro, our recording engineers.
Sega Brothers – thanks for the song Ona Lavi.
Josh Tamanabe and Airi Ingram for co writing Mama’s Lament.
Rachel Connor, Michael Agar, Carolyn Logan, Andrew Penney.
This CD was made possible by the generous assistance of the Christensen Foundation. Special thanks to Catherine Sparks.
About the songs:
Gena Mari is a traditional song. It is about absent fathers from the home & metaphorically speaks about urban drift.
Mama’s Lament expresses sentiments of the uncertainties of what we’re leaving for our children tomorrow. Granma put us to sleep with it.
Inagwe is the lament of an orphan child. It’s sung in the Kiriwina language of the Trobriand Islands
The song Oli met us in the studio. It’s the mourning of my sister Oli who left us too early.
Jinja is a love song. It’s about being far away from home for long time & missing a special person, especially the cold nights in Melbourne.
Ona Lavi is a garden working song from the village. The Sega brothers did a version of this – thanks!
Kisim Taim is a song about environment and forestry, concern for the forests of Papua New Guinea due to logging companies and government corruption.
Lou Pom is from Mailu, Amazon Bay; a song about the beauty, peace & tranquillity of homeland. When I’m walking along the beaches at home, there are no worries. I miss home!
Anamuro recalls the cruelties of the greatest tribal fight the world has ever seen, World War II.
Mogu hails from Mailu village, Amazon Bay, Milne Bay province on the south coast of Papua New Guinea and now resides in Port Moresby, the nation’s capital.
Mogu has been a feature musician in PNG for many years, involved in many projects and has toured the world. Now through his relationship with Wantok Musik, he has released his debut solo album. Dispela cd emi explainim sentiments bilong richard regarding plenti issues long culture, environment, grass roots na feeling bilong ol.
