Collection title Wamin Songs Archive
Description For the completion of Markos Koumoulas’ Ph.D. dissertation, “The Ancient Voice of the Future: Reawakening Ewamian Song and Language” (forthcoming, 2025), and in collaboration with world-renowned Ewamian and Western Yalanji didjeridu player, David Bindi Hudson, this archive presents a collection of fieldwork materials in the Cairns region from March 2022 to March 2023. The aim of this research project is the revitalization of the Wamin (Ewamian) language through song. The first component of this project is the creation and recording of new Ewamian 'classical' Aboriginal music. Secondly, is the development of an Ewamian-based didjeridu notation derived from Ewamian cultural symbology and rock art to help facilitate the documentation of Ewamian music and language.
