Title Kawa Hpe Gun Ai La A Lam | The Man Who Carried His Father
Description Translation (Lazing Htoi San & Keita Kurabe)
The story I'm going to tell now is called "The Man Who Carried His Father." Long ago, there was a man who lived with his elderly father. One day, the man got married. His wife neither respected her husband's father, her father-in-law, nor loved him. So, she constantly nagged her husband to send his father far away. Because she kept saying this so much, one day, the man wove a large basket. Seeing him weaving the large basket, the father asked, "My son, why are you weaving such a big basket?" However, the son didn't answer anything. When he finished weaving the basket, he said to his father, "Father, please get inside this basket." And he carried his father away. Thus, carrying his father, he walked far away from the village, to a deserted place. "Father, please stay here," when they arrived he said, and turned to leave. As the man was walking away, his father called out, "My son, come here." "You are going to leave me here now." "You have now married," "and soon you will have a child of your own." "That child will one day carry you away just as you have done to me." "So, take this basket home for your child to use in the future." Hearing these words, the son was greatly shocked and had a change of heart. He realized he had been wrong for only listening to his wife, and he decided to change his ways. He carried his father back home. When they arrived home, he said to his wife, "Wife, because of what you made me do," "I have changed my mind." "I cannot leave my father in a faraway place." "I have brought my father back." "I cannot be separated from my father." "If you want to return to your parents' home, then go ahead," he said firmly to his wife.
