Title Nang Bya Hkindu Gun Ai Lam | Nang Bya Carrying the Thatch Grass
Description Translation (Gun Mai & Keita Kurabe)
The story I'm about to tell is "Nang Bya Carrying the Thatch Grass." As everyone knows, Nang Bya is a great liar. He is always thinking about how to lie to his friends. One day, Nang Bya said to his friends, "Come on, let's go to the field and carry my thatch grass today." He invited them so. In the mountainous areas, thatch grass is carried in large bundles. If we Kachin people are invited to work, whether the person who invited us has arrived or not, the one who arrives first immediately starts working. Nang Bya came early, got inside a large bundle of thatch grass, and was hiding there. His friends, being invited by Nang Bya, carried the thatch grass in which Nang Bya was hiding, and returned to Nang Bya's house. At that moment, as they were about to reach the house, Nang Bya said, "Hey, friend, please put it down gently!" "Don't throw it!" "I am inside!" Hearing this, the friend, deceived by Nang Bya, became very angry. Very angry, he thought to himself, "Just you wait, Nang Bya!" "It will be your turn next time!" He thought to himself. So, one day, just as Nang Bya had done to him, he invited Nang Bya, intending to deceive him. "Hey, come on, let's carry my thatch grass today!" He went ahead, just like Nang Bya had deceived him, and hid inside a bundle of thatch grass. Then, Nang Bya said, "Hmm, this person is trying to make me carry it." He threw the spear he brought into a place where there were no bundles of thatch grass. And then he said, "Alright, let's try throwing it at that bundle of thatch grass!" Then, the friend who was hiding in the bundle of thatch grass said, "Hey, stop it! Stop it!" "I'm hiding inside!" Thus, Nang Bya avoided carrying his friend. Nang Bya is indeed a great liar. A very great liar indeed. The people of old told this story. Thank you.
