Title Amyu Kaji Ni Sha Lawa Hpe Dang Kau Ai Lam | The Ogre Defeat by the Little Ones
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai & Keita Kurabe)
I am now going to tell the tale of "The Ogre Defeat by the Little Ones." Long ago, in a region, there was an old ogre so strong that no one could match him. Every day, be it animals or humans, one had to be sacrificed. Even without a sacrifice, he would catch and eat someone himself. And so, as time passed, because the ogre had eaten them, the animals and humans of that region disappeared. Only the small ones, the immature, and those deemed insignificant were left. Therefore, one day, these remaining beings, the dung beetle, bee, snakehead, crab, mud eel, and stone, held a meeting. They said this: "Now, let's do this!" "Mr. Stone, please watch the base of this ladder." "Mr. Mud eel, please stay on top of this ladder." "Mr. Crab, please stay inside this water jar." "Mr. Snakehead, please hide inside this hearth." "Mr. Bee, please wait in the ogre's room." Thus, the dung beetle led the meeting, "When the ogre, full and satisfied, enters his room," "I will fly with a 'Dee-Dee' sound," "and spread the gas of dung." "Then, he will become angry," "chase me, and strike everywhere around." "At that time, Mr. Bee, you must sting his face," the dung beetle said. Each of them took their roles, held the meeting, and waited. Then, after a while, the old ogre, full and ready to sleep, entered his room. When the ogre entered the room, the dung beetle flew in with a "Dee-Dee" sound, and spread the dung gas. Then, the ogre, enraged, chased the dung beetle, striking all around. While he was doing so, the bee stung his face. Then, the ogre, in his anger and pain, wanted to kill the dung beetle and bee by setting a fire, and he ran to the hearth. The snakehead hiding inside the hearth when the ogre squatted down by the hearth, jumped with a "Paruk ruk ruk" sound. It caused the ashes to enter the ogre's eyes, and he became blind. Thus, being unable to see, he tried to wash his eyes, and groped for the water jar, but when he thrust his hand into the jar, the crab inside the jar pinched his hand with all its might. Having his hand pinched in this way, he tried to throw the crab outside, and he ran outside. There he slipped on a mud eel lying on the ladder, fell down the ladder, and hit his head on the stone guarding the base of the stairs, resulting in his head splitting open and his death. In this way, the ogre, who had violently devoured everyone in the region, was defeated by these six smallest of beings, by their combined efforts.
