I'm going to talk about the Kaempferia flower. Once upon a time, there was a boy named N-gaw Naw Ja. There was also a girl named Nawhpwi Ja Hpa. Many rich men proposed to Nawhpwi Ja Hpa, but she did not fancy any of them. She held a Manau dance to choose her life partner. In the Manau dance the boy N-gaw Naw Ja also took part. Nawhpwi Ja Hpa took a liking to N-gaw Naw Ja. She took him along, and they lived together. While they were living together, the rich men called N-gaw Naw Ja to go on a trading journey. On the way of the journey, the rich men exchanged a sword sheath and clothes with those of N-gaw Naw Ja. Then, they left N-gaw Naw Ja and returned to the village, and told Nawhpwi Ja Hpa, "I am sorry to say that your husband N-gaw Naw Ja has passed away on the way." "This is the clothes and the sword sheath left by him." They showed them to her. Seeing that, Nawhpwi Ja Hpa believed that N-gaw Naw Ja had died. She went to marry someone else. After a while, N-gaw Naw Ja finished his trading journey, and bringing the cows he had acquired, he returned to the village. When he arrived at the house, he left the cows outside and went inside the house. But Nawhpwi Ja Hpa was no longer there. "Where is Nawhpwi Ja Hpa?" he asked. When told that she had married someone else, he went out to the front part of a house, sat on a mortar, and played the flute. He played it for seven days. On the seventh day, Nawhpwi Ja Hpa came back and found her husband, "Oh, My lovely husband Ngaw Naw Ja, stop playing the flute!" she said. When she took the flute from his mouth, N-gaw Naw Ja made a "Pyo" sound and died. When he died, Nawhpwi Ja Hpa held his body and cried. After crying for seven days, Nawhpwi Ja Hpa also passed away. So the villagers buried them in the same place. At the place where they buried them, a "Pan Yawn Doi flower" (a type of mint) bloomed on one side, and a "Pan Tsun flower" (a sweet-scented Kaempferia) bloomed on the other.
