Title Galang Hte Hka Tai Mat Ai Gaida Yan Nu A Lam | The Mother and the Son Who Became Hawk and Water
Description Translation (Htoi San & Keita Kurabe)
The story I am telling now is "The Mother and Son Who Became Hawk and Water." A long time ago, there were a widow and her son. They earned their living by working in other people's fields. One day, as usual, they were working in someone else's field. The sun was so hot, and the mother was thirsty. So she asked her son, "Son, go and fetch water from the river." She asked him. The son did as his mother told him and went to the river to fetch water. But he was still a child. When he arrived at the river he enjoyed catching crabs, shrimps, and small fish. He forgot that he was asked to fetch water. He played there until the evening. The sun went down. The son said, "No, my mother wanted a drink of water!" "She sent me here." He remembered it and was surprised. He rushed to carry the water and went back to his mother. But his mother passed away due to her thirst. When he saw his mother dead he felt sin. He cried and cried. He cried and cried and he died because his heart was torn. After the mother and the son died the mother became water. And the son became an eagle. The eagle was thirsty. So he went to the water valley to drink but all the water turned to blood. So he could not drink it. He could not drink water and seeked his mother shouting "pew-pew!" It flied around in search of his mother. That's why, until today, during the hot season, the eagle is flying around with a "pew-pew" sound. It is flying around shouting because it is thirsty. That's why children and grandchildren should listen to their parents. They should keep their word.
