The story I am telling now is about a man who was taken by a witch. Once upon a time, there was a family that had only one son. When his parents grew old the son cultivated a field in the forest to support his family. One day, when he went to the field he met a witch on the way. The witch liked him so much that she took him into the deep forest. And on the top of a large tree where no one could climb she built a big house and fed him. The witch built a household with the man. She did not let him go anywhere. Food was gathered by the witch because she did not want him to go back to his home. The man lived with the witch every day. The witch fed the man. Because he did not eat salt he became hairy all over. When they had a child only the witch went out. She made him live on the tree. One day, when the witch went to look for food, the man said to her, "I want to weave a rope, my wife." "Go and find me some bamboo splits so that I can make the rope." The witch loved her husband. She did as he asked and gathered bamboo splits every day. The man wove the bamboo splits. He wove them to go down to the ground. Every day he wove the bamboo splits that the witch had gathered. No matter how much he wove, it did not reach the length to reach the bottom of the tree. When the witch said, "I have a lot of bamboo splits now," he told her to go and find more. He wove the bamboo splits every day. When he wove that way one day, the rope was woven until it reached the ground. As soon as it reached the ground while the witch went to look for food clinging to the rope he ran down to the ground and ran away. When the witch realized that he had fled down the tree, carrying the child on her back, she ran after him. He was afraid that she would catch up with him. He fled across the river. After he crossed the river the witch came to the riverbank. But she could not cross the river, so she said, "Come back!" "Come back to us!" She cried out to the man. But he never came back. He went to the other shore. When the witch realized that he was not coming back she tore the child in half and threw it into the river for her husband. The villagers found the man on the riverbank. They were surprised and ran away. Because the man was hairy all over. The villagers thought he was a ghost. So they ran away in surprise. The man said, "I am not a ghost!" "I am a human being!" "I was in the forest because I was taken by a witch." "I couldn't eat salt." "So my whole body became hairy." He explained to them. The villagers took pity on him. They took him back to their village. Back in the village, he ate salt every day. So the hairs on his body disappeared. So the old people said, "If you do not eat salt, you become hairy."
