Title Sumbra shabrang a lam | The caterpillar boy
Description Translation (Keita Kurabe)
I'm going to tell you a story about a caterpillar boy. Once upon a time, there was a caterpillar boy. He fell in love with a human girl. He was a caterpillar during the daytime. Only at night can he assume human form. Like a human young man, he dressed in a turban and wore beautiful longy and was in love with a human girl. Only at night he changed into his human form and always went to visit the human girl. One night, a festival was to be held at the home of the village elder. The women of the village discussed going to gather banana leaves to wrap the food for the festival. "Tomorrow, we will go and collect banana leaves." The girlfriend of the caterpillar boy also invited her boyfriend, "I'm going to pick up banana leaves tomorrow, so come with me." The next day, the village youths went out to pick banana leaves. The caterpillar's girlfriend was waiting for her boyfriend to come. She thought he was a human boy. Because she thought the caterpillar boy was a human, she waited, picking up banana leaves, wondering, "When will he come? When will he come?" But no matter how long she waited, he did not appear. She did not know that her boyfriend was a caterpillar. She thought to herself, "Hmm, it's not true that he loves me." "I invited him to pick up banana leaves with me, but he wouldn't come." "He's a liar." She thought of her boyfriend that way. "Hmmm, come to me tonight." "I will never speak a word to you." She was angry. As a matter of fact, to the place where she was gathering banana leaves he had come in the form of a caterpillar from the beginning. He had already come to the forest in the form of a caterpillar. He came to the place where she was gathering banana leaves. He was chewing small pieces of leaves from the top of the tree and dropping them to her. When she moved to another place, he also chewed off the leaves and dropped them to her. He was helping her that way. That night. When the young people who had gone to pick up the banana leaves gathered, the caterpillar boy said to his girlfriend, "Hmmm, I am very tired because I collected so many leaves today." Hearing this, she said, "Where have you been gathering leaves?" "I've been looking for you all day." "You were nowhere to be found." "Where have you been gathering leaves?" She said to him like that. And what did the caterpillar boy say to her? "I was dropping leaves for you where you were gathering them." Hearing this, she remembered, "Hmmm, maybe my guy is not human." Because when she spent all day picking up leaves, indeed, as he said, no matter where she gathered leaves, small leaves fell and she could not carry them. Even when she moved to another place, small leaves fell. She moved to another place, and still small leaves fell, she recalled. She realized, "Hmmm, he is not human." From then on, she began to avoid him. And when she was avoiding him in that way, at night, when she was sleeping, the caterpillar boy realized that she had discovered his true identity. He realized that she had found out who he was and been avoiding him. Then, at night, while she was sleeping, the caterpillar boy scrambled up her pillow and he bit her chest and never let her go. This is a story told by old people about a caterpillar boy and a human girl. Thank you very much.
