The story I am going to tell you now is about Nam Bya. Once upon a time, Nam Bya was hungry, so he went into a house to ask for food. But the people in that house were poor and had no food to eat. When they saw Nam Bya enter their house, they said, "We haven't eaten for over a day. Please lend us some money if you have any. We will definitely pay you back when we have some money." They asked Nam Bya for help. Nam Bya entered the house to ask for food, but he was speechless when they asked him for help. He didn't know what to do. He had traveled far, so he had spent all his money. He didn't have even a penny left. Both of them were in trouble. The house where Nam Bya went to ask for food had nothing to eat because the rich man from another village had come and eaten food. Also, he took all the rice and food they had. He didn't leave them anything. That rich man was from another village. He moved to this village the previous year. One day, the children from that poor house and the child of the wealthy man were playing together. The rich man's child lost an eye because of the poor children. The rich man became angry and demanded compensation. When Nam Bya heard their story, he got mad and said, "I will avenge. He is so mean! I will teach him a lesson!" He told the old man in that house to pretend that he was sick and to stand on the path that the rich man usually took with his horse. And Nam Bya was watching the whole scene from afar. After a few minutes, the rich man's horses came down the road, carrying their loads. The old man did as Nam Bya said. He suddenly came out from among the trees and spread the mat between the horses. And he lay down on it. The horses were shocked and ran away. Then Nam Bya, who was hiding, came out and asked, "Dad, what happened? Did the horses step on you?" He asked like that. The old man didn't want to deceive the rich man, but the rich man was arrogant and looked down on them. Therefore, he did as Nam Bya said. He was pretending to be dead, as if the horses had actually stepped on him. Nam Bya came out from hiding and shouted, "Your horses stepped on my father! What will you do if he dies? Hurry! Check on my father!" The horsemen said, "Why was your father sleeping on the side of the path?" Nam Bya said, "We have nothing to eat at home, so we are out looking for food. When we were here, my father got a stomachache. The pain was severe, so I searched for herbs to help him." He turned to the old man and asked, "Dad, can you hear me? Are you all right?" He said to the horsemen, "If you don't compensate us, I will report this to the village chief!" They didn't know what to do. They gave Nam Bya and the old man three horses carrying rice. Since Nam Bya and the old man had lied to the horsemen, they couldn't stay at home. Nam Bya told the old man to move to another place. The old man and his family moved away from their village.
