Title Chahkyawn hte hka-u (Kingd and water bird) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
The story I am going to tell now is about a fox and an egret. Once upon a time, there was a fox and an egret. There were two foxes: one small and one big. The big fox told the small one, "Let's go catch some fish. I know where the big fish are." The small fox could swim, so he caught the fish. Then he said, "Let's eat the fish." The big fox said, "We can't eat it yet. We need to cut out its bone. Go get something to cut with." He ordered the small fox to do it. While the small fox was away, the big fox took the fish and ran away. When he was on a mountain, he ate the fish all by himself. When the small fox followed him, he found only bones on the ground. The small fox realized that the big fox had deceived him, so he became depressed. He later died of hunger. On the other hand, the big fox got a bone stuck in his throat. He was in trouble and walked near the water. The fox saw an egret catching fish in the water. Then he begged the egret, "Please take this bone out of my throat. If you can, I will give you anything you want." The egret believed him and pulled the bone out of his throat. After taking all the bones out, the fox ran away. He shouted, "I lied to you! Why do you trust anyone's words?!" The egret became depressed and later died.
