Title Masu chye ai Nang Bya (The clever liar Nang Bya) with English translation
Description Translation (Htoi San)
This story is about Nambya who was good at lying. I am going to tell you about a crafty Nambya. He was very famous as a burn artist. One day, one of his uncles heard people saying his nephew was good at lying, so he asked, "I will test my nephew that he knows how to lie well. I am wondering how he lies to others." So the uncle from the bride-giving clan called Nambya, "Come to my house." Then Nambya went to his uncle's house. When he reached there, his uncle said, "I heard about you. People say that you are good at lying to others. How much are you good at lying? What kind of knowledge do you know so that you are lying to others?" "You try lying to me." Nambya said, "How come? People are talking nonsense about me. They are spreading wrong information about me, and I am not that one." However, his uncle insisted, "No.No. Lie to me. You are popular for your perfect lying. Therefore, deceive me." His nephew replied to him, "I cannot! Uncle. I don't know how to deceive." But the uncle kept pushing, "You know how to lie, so fool me faster." His uncle said, "I heard you lie very well. I want to know how you fool people skillfully." "So lie to me just one time or with one method." Then Nambya replied, "My uncle, I can't fool you like this. I don't want to lie, and I don't know how to deceive." "But if you want me to lie to you, I need to use the medicine. I can't lie if I don't use the medicine." The uncle asked, "What kind of medicine is it?" Nambya answered, "I need to go back home and take that medicine from home; otherwise, I can't lie." "Uncle, wait for me. You wait from your home. You wait for me from home if you really want to hear me lying. I go and take the tricky medicine from my house." His uncle said, "Alright if you can lie to me, go and take it. Go and take it!" Nambya informed his uncle, "Uncle, don't go anywhere. You just stay here. You stand here and don't move. You stand here and wait for me." "I will come back, and I won't take long. I can only tell lies using that medicine, so I have to go and take it." The uncle let him go, "If so, go and get it." The uncle stood at the door-sill without moving and waited for Nambya. The uncle waited for his nephew when he would return and when he would come back. He stood there waiting for Nambya without moving. An hour and an hour passed by, and even a day and a day passed by, his uncle still stood there and waited for his nephew. He thought, "This Nambya, he doesn't know how to lie to me and what to lie to me, so he goes back to take medicine." "People just talk about him incorrectly. He can't lie to me, so he is shy and doesn't return to me." The uncle talked about him like that until he was tired of talking about Nambya and waiting for him. After so long, Nambya returned to his uncle. Then his uncle said, "Oh! You are taking so long. Why are you taking so long?" "I wanted to hear you lying as people talk about you so much. I have waited for you quite a long time to let you lie to me. Why don't you come back until now? You just arrived here, and I have been tired of waiting for you." Nambya told his uncle, "My uncle. You told me to get the medicine for lying." "I already told you without the tricky medicine, and I can't lie. So I went home to take that medicine." "So why do you still believe me? I lied to you that I went and took the tricky medicine." "You trust me that I went to take it until today, so you have waited for me till you tired of your legs." Nambya told his uncle that he went to take the lying medicine and let his uncle wait at the door-sill that he lied to his uncle this way. The uncle realized only then, "Aw, my nephew lied to me, but I didn't even notice that. That's why my nephew is very famous." Uncle only found out that his nephew Nambya tricked him. When he realized it, he tried to walk. His legs were stiff, and they were difficult to walk. Uncle thought, "My nephew is talented at lying, and I faced his lying until I couldn't even walk as I waited for him standing," However, his nephew was unsatisfied with it, and he said to Nambya, "You can't lie to me even if I tell you to lie to me next time." Nambya accepted his uncle, "Even whoever lies to me or whatever punishment I am given, I will not do this again." "My uncle, I will deceive again from now on." The uncle told him, "You live your life lying like that, and now you even deceive your uncle. If you want to lie to me one more time, you can test me." Nambya replied, "My uncle, I will not lie again. I am afraid of God. I am scared that God will punish me. I won't work a job like that. I will not lie anymore." "Therefore, my uncle, don't worry that I will deceive you again. You don't need to worry about me. I am afraid now, and I am scared of God too. I won't lie again. All the tricky ways regarding lying do not relate to me at all." Then Nambya went home. After that, he returned to his uncle again. The uncle said, "You said you won't deceive people, but you lied to people today." "Yeah, my uncle. Do you still believe what I said I wouldn't lie again, right? You trusted that I said I will not tell lies." "Actually, I lied to you, my uncle. The lies just come out from my heart, and I follow my heart." "What could I do about it? The lies just do their jobs." Therefore, Nambya did not escape from his whole lying life. He continually lied to people. Even people said they did not trust Nambya when they heard what Nambya said in his mouth; they just fell for it. So people named him 'a fibber Nambya.'
