Title Gumtung ga a lam (The life in Gumtung region) with English translation
Description Transcription (Htoi Awng)
Long time ago in Gumtung region, Lauyan Mountain, I had many tea leaf farms. When I was eighteen years old, when I was eighteen years old, I got married. I worked on the tea leaf farms and sold those leaves. I lived there till I was thirty-five years old. I sold the tea leaves from Guntung region, Lauyan Mountain to Lamai region, Pin Baw, Kawng Tan, Bamaw Kawng, Bago Su, Pin Tong Long, Nang Mi Kong, Nan Hkwi, Nga Mai, Hopin, Chya Gyi Kwin. I worked as a farmer for twenty years. In our Gumtung region, we don't need to plant tomatoes. There are garlics, onions, and leeks too. We fermented the leeks and treated to the guests. We can ferment garlics too. We can cook the roots of leeks with some biltongs and yam. It's a delicious curry. We can make fermented leeks. And we can cook curry by using that. We used to farment the leeks. We can eat like that. We can cook the yam curry with that too. There are fig leaves and call them as 'gaidan shan' (a name for fig leaves). We can cook fig leaves with large palm shoots. I had worked there for twenty or thirty years. During the civil war (1960 to 1970), we ran down from Lauyan Mountain to Lagwi village. I farmed there about four or five years too. In 1987 or 1988, I reached in Myitkyina. I live here since then.
