Description |
This is a small collection of the Patipi variant of Onin (iso code oni, also known as Onim), spoken on Bomberai Peninsula in Fakfak Regency in eastern Indonesia.
The data was gathered in 2022/2023 and 2025 by Eline Visser, while she worked on the closely related language Uruangnirin, spoken on the Karas Islands. In 2022, she interviewed two speakers: Sahadia Pagesa and Abas Hindom. They both have roots from Patipi (although they grew up in Fakfak), and both married Uruangnirin speakers and moved to Kiaba village on Karas. In 2025, she interviewed Samsulando Garamatan, who grew up in Patipi Pasir. He married an Uruangnirin speaker from Tarak on Karas, and moved there. All data was collected in Kiaba and Tarak.
The collection consists of the following:
• short sociolinguistic interviews with Sahadia and Abas (bundle “soc”, a short sociolinguistic interview with Samsulando is included in the recording oni-wordsandsyntax1-samsulandogaramatan.wav in the bundle “words_syntax”)
• life stories of Sahadia and Abas (bundles “lifestory_SP” and “lifestory_AH”)
• a pear story by Abas (bundle “pear”)
• super short word list elicitation with Sahadia and Abas (bundle “13words”), mainly to determine which lect they speak
• an attempt at grammar elicitation with Abas (bundle “grammar”)
• grammar and extensive word list elicitation with Samsulando (bundle “words_syntax”)
• spoken consent forms for the speakers in this collection (bundle “consent”) |
