After some time, the two laid eggs, and when the time came for the chicks to hatch, just as they had discussed earlier, the waterbird built its nest on the ground, and the crow built its nest in the tree. The crow, which had built its nest in the tree, caught prey from the sky and the treetops. It could also catch prey on the ground, so the crow thought it could lay many chicks and boasted about it. The waterbird built its nest on the ground and ate only prey from the ground and the water. However, when the time came to lay eggs, the waterbird laid many eggs. The crow, on the other hand, laid only a few eggs. Seeing that the waterbird had laid many eggs, the crow became jealous. Since they were competing to see who could lay more chicks, the crow became afraid of losing. So, while the waterbird was out searching for food, the crow secretly stole the waterbird's eggs, carried them back to its own nest, and incubated them.
