The short story I am going to tell you now is about the stone of the Laga clan. Twenty years ago, there was a big stone near the Shi Den Hka River in Shi Den village, where the Laga clan buried their umbilical cords. The stone was as big as an elephant. One day, an elephant driver threw a stone, and by accident, it struck the big stone. A loud clashing sound rang out: "Deng!" Other ethnic groups, such as the Burmese and Shan, came there, planted flags, and worshipped the stone. They planned to move the stone later. They used cranes to lift the stone, but it didn't move at all. At that time, the Jinghpaw people said, "This stone belongs to us. This is where we bury our umbilical cords." Then, they started looking for the owner of the stone. Soon, they were told, "That stone belongs to the Laga clan chief." Then, they looked for the Laga clan. Some of the people from the Laga clan already became Christian. Only one person, Laga La, remained an animist. He was a drug addict and lived in Namsheng. They said to him, "You are the owner of this stone. Let us take this stone. We will name it Ngwe Maung. Bless us." When Laga La heard what they said, he was happy and gave it to them happily. He poured fermented rice liquor and gave them the blessing. Then the stone could be moved easily. Now, they named that stone "Ngwe Maung" and placed it in Khan La. That is our historic stone, once owned by the Laga chief. The Jinghpaw people were upset to give it to others, but they couldn't do anything.
