This is about a nat's gong. Once upon a time, there were two siblings in a village. The elder brother was wealthy, but the younger brother was poor. The younger brother sold wood to make a living and also took care of his parents. However, the elder brother didn't take care of his parents and never gave them any money to spend. One day, there was less wood to collect in the place where the younger brother usually went, so he went to a distant forest to gather it. There was a lot of wood in that forest. He thought of collecting more the next day, so he gathered and piled a large amount that day. He was exhausted from collecting wood. As it was getting dark, he rested under the shade of a tree. While he was sitting, a fruit with a hard outer layer fell on his head. He picked it up and thought of feeding it to his father. At that moment, another one fell onto the ground. He picked it up and said, "I will feed this one to my mother." At that time, the third one fell again. He said, "This is for my elder brother, my sister-in-law, and me." And he put them in his bag and went back home. As it was getting dark, he thought to himself, "I might not be able to get home before nightfall. I see a hut in the field over there. I will stay there tonight and go back home tomorrow." When he arrived there, he called, "House owner? Is anybody there?" But no one replied to him. So he just walked inside and stayed there. Around midnight, he heard a group of people talking. He thought, "Where are they going?" He was listening carefully and realized that they were approaching the hut where he was staying. He thought, "Who would go out around midnight? They could be nat spirits." So he climbed onto the ceiling joist and hid there. At that moment, four nat spirits walked into the hut. They were carrying a gong, too. One nat spirit said, "I want to drink alcohol," and hit the gong. Then, many kinds of alcohol appeared in front of them. Another one said, "I am hungry," and played the gong. Then many dishes and rice appeared. Another one said, "I am thirsty," and different kinds of drinks appeared. They were eating, drinking, and having fun together. The man hiding there saw everything and wanted to eat that food. He took the fruit out of his bag and bit into one. Since the fruit had a hard outer layer, it made a loud noise when he bit it. When the four nat spirits heard the noise, they said, "This house is going to collapse! Let's run!" They all ran away in different directions. The next morning, he climbed down from the joist and ate all the food. When he went outside, he found the gong that the nat spirits had left near the door. He picked it up and thought, "Many different things appeared when they hit this gong. I will do the same. I want some nice clothes." He struck the gong, and lots of beautiful clothes appeared. He put on the clothes and said, "I also want some rice." Then he struck the gong, and rice appeared. He said, "I want money and gold," and he got it. Later, he gathered everything and went back home. He took the gong and took care of his parents. Later, his elder brother heard about the gong. When he asked the younger brother, the younger brother told him everything. He also wanted to get the gong, so he went there. He did the same as his younger brother. While the nat spirits were gathering, the man hiding there saw the gold and money and grew greedy. He clumsily took out the hard fruits, but this time they didn't make a loud noise. The nat spirits heard the noise and said, "Last time, we thought the house was going to collapse. This time, it's just moving a little." They looked up and saw the man sitting up there. Then they said, "He is the one who stole our gong!" They caught him and beat him. The next morning, they walked away. They had been hitting him only on his nose all night, and his nose had become really huge. He had to hold his nose with his hands as he went back home. He told his younger brother, "You have always taken care of our parents even though you are poor. I have never helped you, even though I am rich. I grew jealous when you became wealthy, and that's why this happened to me. Please forgive me. Can you please make my nose like it was before by hitting your gong?" The younger brother replied, "If you truly regret it, I will make it happen." He hit the gong, and the elder brother's nose returned to its original shape. The two brothers took good care of their elderly parents until their last breath. They lived happily ever after.
