Title Jahkan hte hkauna madu (Crab and farmer) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Once upon a time, there was a farmer. He found a crab on the dry land while tending his paddies. He felt pity for it, so he picked it up and placed it somewhere with water. The crab thanked him and said, "Thank you. I will help you when you are in trouble." He said, "Okay," and left the crab in the water. There was a big tree near his farm. A couple of eagles lived in that tree. The female eagle said to her husband, "I want to eat that farmer's heart. I am craving it." The male eagle said, "It is not easy to catch a living man." However, the female insisted, "I want to eat him." He didn't want her to get angry, so he said, "Okay. I will catch him." When he stooped down to catch the man, a group of crabs pinched his neck and killed him. The female eagle thought, "Now that my husband is dead. Whom should I ask to catch the man for me?" Then she looked around and saw a snake coiled beneath the tree. She said to the snake, "Snake, let's be friends. I want to ask you to bring that farmer to me. I really want to eat his heart." The snake said, "Okay. I will bite him, and you can come eat him." He slithered along the water and bit the farmer's leg. After the snake bit him, the man fell to the ground. Then the crab gripped the snake's head with its claw. Meanwhile, the female eagle didn't see that the snake was being attacked; she only saw the man falling to the ground and flew toward him. At that moment, the crab gripped her neck with its other claw. It said to them, "Why did you do that to my lifesaver?" The eagle and the snake began blaming each other. Then the crab said, "Don't argue! Just remove the snake's venom from my lifesaver's body." The snake said, "I will remove the venom. Loosen your grip a little." But instead, he tried to slither away. Then the crab gripped him tighter and said, "Why are you trying to lie to me?! I will kill you!" The snake begged it, saying, "Don't kill me, please! I will surely remove the venom. If I don't keep my word this time, you can do whatever you want to me." After the snake removed the venom from the man, he regained consciousness. Then the crab said to the snake and the eagle, "If I release both of you, you will hurt him again." Therefore, it killed them with its claws.
