Title Nu yi sha yi (Nu yi sha yi) with English translation
Description Translation (Htoi San)
There was a widow and her child a long time ago. One day, they had nothing to cook, so they went out to look for food in the jungle. They reached the confluence, junction of Nmai stream and Mali stream. The mother and her child walked along the river the whole day. They got to the junction of Nmai stream and Mali stream in the afternoon, where they had their lunch and left the place after eating. They thought the minor rivers would meet, so one went to Nmai stream. Another went up to Mali stream. They walked on their own way along the small river as they thought the rivers would cross at one place until sunset. They were far apart, and they did not meet each other until darkness came. The mother thought, "Where is my child?" The child also thought, "Where is my mother?" Then the mother called, "Sha I! Sha I!" Her child also cried out, "Nu I! Nu I!" On that day onwards, the baby cicada called out, "Hkra I! Hkra I!" and they got the name "Sha I".

Re yang gaw shan nu gaw hka shi zingrai rai na shadu nna, langai gaw nmai hka de. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
