Title Myit malai hpang hkrat (Man who was late to change his mind) with English translation
Description Translation (Htoi San)
Here is a story about late repentance. A long time ago, there was a son with his mother. Father passed away, and only one child left. The mother wanted her son to be educated even though she was so poor. Mother went back and forth the whole night for work. She did not wear pretty sarongs and did not buy any beautiful blouses. Her bed was also unpleasant. Their clothes were like rags. Her sarongs were mending as there were many holes. Her clothes had patches torn from other garments. She prepared the mustard leaves for the whole night and sold them in the morning. She supported her child's school fee from that. Her son understood a bit more in his study. Her son made friends with those who were alcoholic and did all the wrong things. They tempted her son and called him, "Let's go there. Let's go over there. Let's drink this. Let's eat this." Mother braced him as he was the only child even though she was poor. But her son foolishly drank and ate as well as intoxicated roaming around. He betrayed his mother and rambled far away for his happiness. One day, the son realized himself and felt lonely and went back to his mother. But his mother was not at home. He thought, "My mom might go to Aunt Bawk." So he came to Aunt Bawk. He asked Aunt Bawk, "Aunt Bawk, don't you see my mother?" Aunt Bawk replied, "Your mother passed away. Her grave is over there." She showed his mother's grave. Even though he saw his errors, he was already late. When his mother was alive, he was evil and drunk with his friends. Even though his mother pulled him to return from evil, he pushed his mother's forearm and shirked her away, and then he got off to relish his own life. Even though he repented one day, it was already late. So our children, if you repent belatedly, there is nothing and meaningless. You regretted it after your mother's death, and this is useless. That's why you have to pity and care for your mother. In this knowledgeable lesson, you have to listen to your mother when trying hard for you. So this story is about how children must obey and accept their parents' teachings.

Yup ra ma n tsawm ai da, shan nu na gaw tsup nyi hkrai kanu gaw labu ma kapa ai palawng ma kaga kaw na je la na kapa hkrai kapa ai bu nna kasha hpe e chyinghkrang shana tup tup chyinghkrang dinghtan, jahpawt gaw gat de chyinghkrang dut la la di na kasha hpe jawng htawk ai da. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
