Title Sumbra baw hkyeng mat ai lam (Why the head of a caterpillar is read) with Englsih translation
Description Translation (Htoi Awng)
Long time ago, there was a handsome man in a village. He transformed into a caterpillar and went to eat the leaves from the place where humans were working. Then he saw a beautiful girl who was farming in a farm. When he saw that beautiful girl who was going to the farm, he fell in love in her. He loved that girl so much. Then, he transformed into a man again. And he did a farm near the girl's farm. They did farming together and saw each other every day. After some days, they fell in love. They were going back to the village. When they arrived at the village, they were still deeply in love each other and lived happily. The man told his girl, "I will go back to my village after farming this time." Then, the girl agreed and told him, "Okay. But come back as quick as you can." He said, "Okay." And he went back to his village. He didn't show up again even though one year had passed. But he came back at the right time when they had to do farming. The girl told him, "I am going to do farming tomorrow. Will you do farming too?" Then the man answered, "I will not do farming this year. There is still some food left for me from last year." Then the girl asked, "Can you help my brothers? They are going to cut the trees down tomorrow. Can you help them?" And the man agreed that. He asked, "What time shall I come?" The girl answered, "Come around 8 a.m." And the man said, "Alright." The next morning, the caterpillar (the man) went there by eating the leaves. When he went there, he forgot to transform into a man. But he thought he had turned into the man. Then he went there around 8 a.m. But no one saw him. Even though the girl and her brothers were cutting the bushes and trees, she couldn't even see the shape of him. She thought to herself, "Ahhh, I told him to help us. I even told my brothers that my boyfriend will come and help us. But he didn't show up today. He is lying to me. I will tell him when I meet him tonight." In the afternoon, her brothers told her, "Let's have lunch." Then, the caterpillar (the man) heard that and thought, "Oh, it is already time for luch." And he went near the fireplace which the girl built. The girl and her brothers were having lunch. At that time, the caterpillar was quickly going to the place where the cooked rice was put. The brothers saw that caterpillar and said, "This caterpillar really wants to die". And they threw it away. When the brothers threw it away, it rushed back there again. The brothers got angry and thought, "It really wants to die." And they clipped the caterpillar with the tongs and threw it into the fire. So, the bristles of the caterpillar were burnt. The caterpillar quickly got out from the fire. He lost his hair, and he barely ran out from the fire. The next day, the caterpillar changed into the boy. Without hair on his head, he went to meet the girl. The girl blamed him, "Yesterday, I told my brothers that you would come to help them. But why didn't you come to help them?" Then, he said with anger, "Don't say like that. Look at my head! Your brothers were bullying me yesterday. They put me into the fire, and almost all of my hair was gone. And my head had turned red". When he said that, the girl asked, "When did you come?" The boy answered, "I came there. Didn't you see me? Your brothers even did like that to me because they did not like me." The girl said, "Don't try to lie to me! The whole day, I was waiting for you." At that time, the boy realized that he did not go there as a man and he went there as a caterpillar. So, he told the girl about that. Then, she muttered, "Oh! The man whom I loved is a caterpillar? How can I show my face in my village?" She told him, "If you are a caterpillar, I cannot love you anymore. So, just go back to your village. Let's break up! And I am really afraid of you". Then the man said, "I know I cannot live together with a human since I am a caterpillar. So, I will just go back to my village. I will not come back here again". And he went back to his village. It's because the brothers put the caterpillar into the fire. It is the reason why the head of the caterpiller is red today. The caterpillar's head is red now because it was put into the fire.
