Title Madu nga ai ga yambu (Gold pot) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Once upon a time, there was a poor old couple in a village. They didn't work at all. They didn't have a farm or a buffalo. They were penniless. The wife always scolded her husband. She was grumbling to her husband, "You always stay at home without working. Go and find some money." Then, he decided to go somewhere and earn some money. Since he was uneducated, no one wanted to hire him. Then, he took a rest under a big tree. He took a nap there. When he woke up, he saw a pot that was half buried. He guessed it might be a gold pot, so he opened it. It was really a gold pot. He was happy and kept it. Then, he prepared to go back home. But it was a long way for him to go back home. On his way, he found a house where a couple lived. He thought of taking a rest there and going back home tomorrow. There was a man and his pregnant wife at that house. Her husband asked the old man, "What is that?" He replied, "Oh, this is a pot which is filled with oil." He lied to them because he was afraid of getting robbed if he told the truth. The house owner told him, "Then, put it in your bedroom." Then, the old man took it and put it near his bed. And he slept soundly. At night, the pregnant woman was giving birth. Then, they needed some oil to use during labor. The husband said, "We have some oil in the basket downstairs, but it is too dark. Let's just borrow some oil from our guest and put it back in the morning." Then, he quietly went into the old man's room and opened the lid. He saw that there was only gold inside the pot. He thought, "Why did he lie to us? I will just put the oil in the pot as he said." He took all the gold and put the oil in it. The next morning, the old man didn't even eat breakfast and said, "I will go back home now." And he picked up his pot. But it was really heavy. He was suspicious, so he opened the lid. Then, he saw only oil in the pot. But he was stupid and thought, "It changed into oil since I said this was an oil pot. If I told the truth, it would only be a gold pot." And he went back home. His wife was waiting for him. When he arrived home, she told him, "I have something important to tell you. You can't say this to anyone." He told her, "What are you going to say? Tell me!" She told him, "A tree is falling down at the place where we used to pass. There is a pot under that tree. It looks like a gold pot." The husband told her, "No matter whether it is the gold pot or the silver pot, we will get it if we deserve it." At that time, a man walked past their house and heard every word they said. The man went there and checked if that was real. When he opened it, there were only bees inside it. He thought, "That couple lied to me! They knew I was listening to them. So, I will put the pot with snakes in front of their house. I will let the snakes bite them." Then, he put the pot in front of their house the next morning. Meanwhile, the wife thought of getting the gold pot by herself and woke up early. She went outside and saw the pot in front of the door. She thought, "It's like the pot that I saw yesterday." Then, she took it inside the house and opened it. There was gold in the pot. She was happy and said, "We have got a pot full of gold. We got this pot since we deserve it." Since then, she didn't blame or didn't scold her husband. She agreed with her husband whatever he said. They lived happily together since that day.
