Title Baw nu rawng ai num (Wise women who weaved mats) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
A long time ago, there were many women in a village. They weaved the mats for their living. One day, the villagers were in danger because of war. Soldiers arrested all the villagers. But the villagers didn't know how they should do. One day, the chief of their village released a statement, "Children and women are allowed to go back home. But we will arrest men." The women and children went back to their houses. When they got back home, they discussed, "What shall we do to save our husbands?" Finally, they came up with an idea how to save their husbands. As there were many mats they weaved, they put the men inside it. And they put them in baskets and saved them. They carried the baskets on their heads. Men escaped because of their wives' excellent idea.

Panyep da di na nga re shaloi she da panyep da na nga shaloi lani mi mung grai shuk wa ai da. Mung grai shuk wa na she oh ra manang ni mung sa rim, gasat hkat re shanhte hpe rim la kau ai da. Rim la kau re shaloi she da gara hku nchye nga sai da yaw dai hku sha nga ai da. Ma ni mung la ni mung lawm ai da, la ni mung lawm tim shahte gaw dai hku sha nga, dai hku sha nga taw ai da. Nga taw re shaloi she dai lani mi na ten hta gaw dai i shanhte na ningbaw wa gaw laika jahkrat dat ai da. Num ni hte ma ni gaw da mai wa ai da. Ngut na la ni hpe gaw dai kaw jahkring da na i. Dai rim la kau na ngu dai hku ngu tsun ai da. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
