Description Translation (Seng Pan)
A long time ago, there was a lake. A big crocodile lived there. He ate all the animals that came and drunk the water in the lake. One day, a cattleman brought his buffalo near the lake and let it drink the water. At that time, a rabbit was also drinking water there. When the crocodile approached near the buffalo, the rabbit saw it and shouted, "Cattleman. The crocodile is going to eat your buffalo." So, the cattleman pulled his buffalo and went back. The crocodile got so angry at the rabbit. One day, he pretended like a piece of wood. When the rabbit came to the lake to drink water, he saw it and said, "If you are a wood, shake your body." And the crocodile made a move. The rabbit noticed it was the crocodile and ran away after drinking water. The crocodile became angrier than before. The next time, when the rabbit came and drank the water, he said again, "If you are a wood, shake your body." However, this time, the crocodile didn't move. So, the rabbit thought it was not the crocodile and drunk the water slowly. Then, the crocodile bit and put him into the mouth. "Wait! Wait! Can you laugh, "Ha ha ha!"? No, you can't. You are so stupid," the rabbit said. "Don't say that I am stupid. I know I can. Do I need to show you?" the crocodile replied. And the crocodile opened his mouth wide and laughed. At that moment, the rabbit bit the crocodile's tongue and ran away. From that time on, the crocodiles don't have a tongue.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
