Title Shu a lam (Why toads have bumps) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Long time ago, this earth was all dark. So, all animals like frog, fish and prawns wanted light. Since they wanted light (daytime), they discussed that. They needed light so that they could find food well. Then crabs, prawns and many different kinds of fish had a meeting for that. When they had discussed that, one kind of frog didn't agree on that. It said, "I don't need Sun. All I need is water. I don't need Sun. I like only dark." The goliath frog told like that. Then it didn't go to ask for light too. The others went to the Sun land to ask for the light. They went to ask for the Sun to shine upon them. Since then, there was light and dark on this earth. When they got the light, they all bit that frog because it didn't go to ask for light with them together. So the spots which could be seen on a frog's body were the wound that the other animals bit. This is the end of the story.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
