Title Dusat ni hkaw hkam ra (The animals that needed a king) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
In the past, the terrestrial animals asked GOD, "GOD, give us the king." Then GOD appointed the lion as the king of land animals. Then the aquatic animals also asked, "GOD, give us the king." Then GOD gave them the tree log as their king. The aquatic animals came to see the king, the tree log. They tried to knock on it. Later, they asked GOD again. They said, "GOD, give us a new king." Then GOD appointed the crocodile as the king. But the crocodile kept eating them every time they went to see him. We can see the aquatic animals coming out of the water frequently. Actually, they are asking GOD to give them the king.

Dan jang wo dai hka kaw na dusat ni bai tsun ai "E anhte ni hpe hkaw hkawm jaw" nga shaloi shanhte ni hpe Karai Kasang gaw hpun tawng jaw dat rai na nga ni gaw da dai kaw wo dai dai hku sa yu nna she kyu ni wa hpyi dan re ni rai na she wo dai hpun tawng dai hpe she wo dai shanhte ni gaw akawk ni akawk yu rai na dai kalang bai hpyi na hku nga. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,524 translations are currently available (February 10, 2025). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
