Title Hkaw hkam shayi hte matsan ma (Duck and goat exchange) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful young lady in a village. She was the daughter of the chief. She was rich too. She raised a duck. Since they were rich, they had a pond in their house. She raised the duck in the pond. There was a poor lady in that village too. She owned a goat. She lived on the hill and built a shed for the goat. The two ladies became friends and talked about each other. The rich lady visited the poor lady's house. She saw the goat and told her, "My friend, your goat is really beautiful. I love it." She praised her. After that, they went to the rich lady's house. The poor lady saw that her friend was raising the duck. But she hated that there were duck poops everywhere. The rich lady wanted to change her duck and goat. The goat pooped only in the corner. So, she wanted to change her duck and her friend's goat. The rich lady raised the goat and whispered to herself, "The goat is clean and doesn't make any dirt. But it doesn't give birth." Since she raised one goat, it wouldn't breed any other goats. Then, she went to the poor lady's house. The poor lady raised a male duck too. So, there were many ducklings and eggs in the poor lady's house. There was only one duck in the rich lady's house. The rich family got annoyed that the goat didn't give birth, so they killed it and ate it. On the other hand, the poor family got money after selling the duck eggs and became rich. Since the poor lady was hardworking without being lazy, she got rich.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
