Title Myi n mu ai la yen (The Two Blind Men and the Milk) with English translation
Description Translation (Htoi San)
Once upon a time, there were two blind men. One blind man could not see from his mother's womb. Another one could not see when he was older. One day, they traveled together. When they reached a village, they rested there. One man, who was blind when he was old, said to another blind man, "Hey, friend. I want to drink something like milk." Another man, who was blind since he was born, did not have any idea of what milk was and what the features of milk were. He did not know what the milk was and asked, "Friend! What does milk look like?" The first one replied, "Milk looks like a water bird." Another one questioned him, "What is the water bird like?" The first one answered, "Friend, the water bird looks white." However, the second one did not know the color white, so the first man tried to curve his hands to show. The first one bent his hands and said, "Friend, the water bird is like this. Hold my hands." The one, who was blind since he was young, rubbed his friend's hands and found them very curving. Therefore, he said, "Oh my! The one you want to drink is bending that much. So you will choke if you drink that." The one who was blind from his mother's womb said, "I won't drink that. I don't want to drink the milk you want."

Moi kalang mi hta da ndai myi nmu ai la lahkawng nga ai da. Myi nmu ai la langai mi gaw da shi gaw kanu na hkri tung kaw na nan shi gaw myi nmu ai wa re da. Rai yang langai mi gaw shi gaw kaba wa yang nmu ai wa re da. Shan lahkawng gaw da lani mi na aten hta bu hkawm ai da. Hkrun lam hkawm rai jang she shan lahkawng gaw kahtawng langai kaw du rai na she shan lahkawng gaw wa hkring ai da. Wa hkring rai yang she "E hkau e ndai kaba wa yang myi nmu ai wa gaw i ngai gaw nga chyu zawn nga grai lu mayu ai le hkau e" ngu na tsun ai da. Dai shaloi wora hkri tung kaw na myi nmu ai wa gaw nga chyu ngu hpe ma nchye shi gaw hpabaw nsam re mung nchye ai da. Shi gaw nchye majaw she "Nga chyu ngu gaw kaning san ai ma hkau" ngu tsun ai da. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
