Title Jahkrai ma hte katsu shayi (The Orphan Boy and the Shrimp Girl) with English translation
Description Translation (Htoi San)
A long time ago, an orphan boy lived on a farm. The boy stayed alone and worked on the mountains. He stayed in a farmhouse beside the river. He lived by himself everywhere. The orphan boy worked for himself and stayed alone. Every morning, he went to his job, and he cooked singly for him before he left. He cooked for himself, and he did that daily. One day, a crab girl from a stream appeared. The crab girl cleaned the orphan boy's house nicely in the evening. She was the only one in the house, and she wiped and broomed to make it clean as well as cooked dinner. She made very delicious food and prepared the food to be ready then she waited. The crab girl cooked the food and was ready for it. The orphan boy returned from his work and was amazed, "Oh my! I lived here alone. But now my house is clean. Rice and curry are cooked completely, and they taste so good. Who cooks these deliciously?" The girl did that every day, and the orphan boy always ate those and went to work every morning. He cooked and ate in the morning and had ready-made food at night. The next day, he did the same thing and did not investigate. He did not inquire and lived his life without caring about it. He started testing on the third day morning. "I will pretend to go to work. I will hide and peep who it is. I will do that," he thought. He hid in his house, and a gorgeous girl appeared when it was also sunset. The girl came out and cooked rice, broomed, and made a fire for cooking. He came out from his hiding place and said, "Oh! You are the one!" Then he hugged her tightly and told her, "From today onward, you have to stay with me." From that day onward, they lived together as husband and wife happily.

Rai yang she dai la sha jahkrai kasha dai wa shi chyu hpa bungli galaw tim dai hku nga ai da. Rai yang she lani mi gaw shi bungli sa wa rai yang bungli sa na jahpawt shani shagu gaw shi hkrai shat ni shadu sha ai da yaw. Shi hkrai shat shadu rai dai hku chyu nga ai re da. Dai she lani mi gaw dai hka shi kaw na katsu shayi ngu ai she pru wa ai da yaw. Pru wa rai na she um shana maga de shi wa nta ni asan aseng rai sa ye da ya ai da. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
