Title Wa kasha masum (The three pig brothers) with English translation
Description Translation (Htoi San)
Once upon a time, a mother pig had three piglets. As the mother pig was getting old, she told her kids, "My children, I cannot take care of you, so you have to stand on your own legs and find food for yourselves." Thus the eldest piglet went out first. The first piglet saw a buffalo carrying a bundle of straws on the way. Then he asked the buffalo, "Hey friend, please give me some straws." The buffalo replied, "I got these with difficulties and stole from humans. If I give you, I may not be enough. It will not be enough for me." The piglet insisted, "I am penniless, and my mom won't be able to feed me anymore. So I am wandering around by myself, and I also don't have a pen. Therefore, please give me some straws to build a pen to stay in." The buffalo took pity on the piglet and gave him some straw, "If so, I will give you some." After that, the piglet brought those straws and built his house. He constructed his house strongly. One day a fox talked to the piglet, "Hey friend pig, please open the door for me. I want to visit your house for a while." The piglet replied, "Oh! You want to eat me, right?" "No, I don't eat you. Let me just stay at your house for tonight," the fox begged, but the piglet said, "Cannot!" "If you don't open the door, I am going to enter. It is easy for me to go into your house," told the fox, and he knocked down the piglet house forcefully. It was built with just straws and was not strong enough, so it was torn apart. The piglet was in the shed of straws. The fox ate that piglet. Later the second piglet went out to find food. On the way, he met a rabbit. The rabbit brought a bunch of giant grass to eat. The second piglet asked the rabbit, "Hey, friend rabbit, Please give me some of your food grass." The rabbit questioned, "What do you want to do? I got these from other people's yards. People chased me very much, and I could only bring them here arduously." "I want to build a house for me to stay in. Please just give me some. Please pity me." insisted the piglet. The rabbit was compassionate to him and gave him some grass. The piglet planted the grass and built a wall with that; when they grew bigger, he stayed in. After that, the fox came to the second piglet. The fox said, "Hey friend, please give me a chance to stay in your house tonight." The piglet replied, "If I let you in, you will eat me." "I don't eat you. Just let me sleep tonight. Open the door!" said the fox, but the second piglet told the fox, "No. I won't open it." The fox determined, "If you don't open it, I will enter now." Then the fox pushed it forcefully, and the house broke down as it was built with leaves. The piglet was inside the place. The fox chased and ate that piglet again. At last, the youngest piglet wandered around the forest. He saw an elephant bringing a stone. He asked, "Hey, friend elephant, please give me a piece of your stone." The elephant asked him, "What do you want to do? The place where I go and drink water is soft and uncomfortable for me to step on. So I bring this stone to put there, and I can step on it while drinking. It is such a heavy one." "Please give me some to make a pen. I don't have a house. Please have mercy on me," requested the piglet so that the elephant gave a piece of stone with sympathy. The youngest piglet brought this stone and constructed the house. After building the stone house, the fox again came to the youngest piglet. The fox said, "Hey, friend pig, Let me stay at your house tonight. Let me be a guest." The piglet responded, "I don't want to." "I don't accept any guests to stay in my house," replied the youngest piglet as he was a smart one. The fox asked again, "I will go back early tomorrow morning. I will stay just only for tonight." The piglet replied, "No, you cannot." Then the fox insisted, "If you don't want me to stay tonight, I will break your house and go in, then I will eat you." "Even if I open the door, you will definitely eat me," the piglet talked back and did not open the door. The fox hit the door, but it was made of stone, so he was the one who bounced back. Therefore, he went back. "How do I hunt him to eat?" The fox thought of a way to lie to the piglet. The following early day, the fox went to the piglet one more time. The fox said, "Hey friend, many large white radishes are growing beside the pond that is over there. Let's hollow out and eat those." The youngest piglet was intelligent and pretended he did not know, "Which pond? Tell me where they grow. Where are they?" The fox told the location, "They grow there." The piglet asked, "What time are we going tomorrow?" The fox answered, "Let's go at seven in the morning." The piglet agreed, "Alright. Sure." The piglet did not go to the place at seven a.m., which the fox told him, but went there at six a.m., dug out all the radishes, and then brought them home. After that, he cooked. After cooking, the fox came to the piglet and said, "Hey, friend pig, let's go to get the radishes, as I told you yesterday. Let's dig them out and eat." "Friend, I already cooked, and they are ready to eat," replied the piglet. Therefore the fox could not lie to the piglet. The following day, the fox went to the piglet again, "Friend, I found a tree which bears many mangoes. Let's go and pick those mangoes." The piglet asked, "What time will we go tomorrow?" the fox answered, "Let's go at six a.m." This time the fox was clever. The fox thought, "That fella went at six o'clock and ate the radishes when I told him to go at seven. I told him to go at six this morning so he might arrive at five o'clock." The fox decided, "I will go at five o'clock." Then he went to the mango tree at five o'clock, but the piglet went there earlier. The piglet picked the fruits ahead. When the fox arrived at the mango tree, the piglet was already on the tree. The fox thought, "This pig is lying to me," He reached the tree, and the piglet was picking the fruits. The fox was angry and said, "Hey, friend pig, you lied to me again. If you dare to come down, you just come down this morning." The piglet told him, "Hey, friend, the fruits are so sweet. I will drop you one fruit." Then he threw fruit into a deep forest. When the fox entered the deep forest, the piglet jumped down quickly and ran to his house. He held himself inside his house. The fox could not eat him as he was inside his substantial house. The following morning, the fox used his brain to get an idea. "Hey, friend pig, after you left yesterday, I found a lake that dried up, and there were many dead fish. Let's go and get those," the fox told the piglet one more thing. The piglet asked, "Where is the place?" The fox told the location, "Over there." "Friend, let's go there." The piglet asked, "What time do we go tomorrow?" The fox thought, "This fella went five o'clock when I said six o'clock," and said, "Let's go five o'clock." When the fox said to go at five o'clock, the pig woke up at four and went to the lake. The pig walked to the lake at four a.m. to catch fish. He said, "Oh my!" Then he left. The fox waited in front of the piglet's house and called him, "Hey, friend pig." But no one replied. He said, "As soon as he comes out this morning, I will catch him and eat." He waited for quite long, but the pig did not come out for a long time, so the fox peeped into the house. The pig was not there. The fox said to himself, "This pig lied to me again, and he left ahead." When the fox ran to the lake, he found the pig was looking for a bucket to put fish in. The piglet looked for a bucket in a faraway and found a junky box that people had thrown away. When the piglet was getting that junky box to put the caught fish in, he saw the fox running towards him and said, "Oh no! If he sees me, he will definitely eat me." Thus the piglet went into that box. The piglet was on a hill where he found the box, which was rolling down as soon as he went into it. The fox saw the box rolling down and ran away, "Oh dear! Whatever it is, it surely is an earthquake." The fox fled to a prickly forest that grew trees with pointed thorns. He imagined, "Whatever it is, the ground is going to roll and throw me over." He did not look carefully where he ran, and he was thrusted with a very sharp pointed thorn and died. The piglet wanted to know, "Now, how about the fox that he wants me to eat?" After stopping from rotating in the box, he found the fox dead when he looked for the piglet. The piglet caught fish and put them into the box nicely. After that, he went back home and cooked deliciously. Therefore, a jealous mind is not sound.
