Title Woi ni kang hta sha ai lam (The monkey who collects tax) with English translation
Description Translation (Htoi San)
This story happened during English time when the English came up the Irrawaddy river with a ship. On the way up, they had to pass a place called 'Woi Kang Hkum,' where there was a monkey kingdom. Whoever passed the monkeys' place had to pay the duty fee. The monkeys collected the duties fee, so people needed to give fruits, vegetables, food, corn, and snacks when the monkeys came down. They had to stop even though the water was high or how difficult the situation was. The monkeys' place was beside rattans, and people found it very challenging to stop when the ships were up and down the river, and it was hard to pay for the duty. Due to this difficulty, English might be angry with that, "Oh my, these monkeys are too forceful." Therefore, they brought a biscuit tin in which they put poison when they came the next time. Then they placed and shared them with the monkeys. English people gave poison biscuits to the monkeys. When the monkeys received them, they passed the snacks to their king, who sat on the rock throne. After eating the snack, the monkey king shook and died. Then all the rest of the monkeys ate the snacks the English people gave them, and they all died after eating those. From that onwards, no one needed to pay the duty fee whenever they passed 'Woi Kang Hkum.' Due to the demolition of English, we all passed that place happily until today.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
