Description	Translation (Htoi San) A long time ago, there were a widow and her son in a village. She overindulged her son since he was young. When other people were teaching her son what to do, she disliked them teaching her son. Then, her son became a grown-up boy. He always gave his mother mental pain. He was naughty and annoyed his mother by refusing to do his tasks. While the mother was working on the farm, he was just sleeping at home. One day, she told him, "My son, we don't have enough food. Go dig some yams and taros." At that time, he aims a knife at his mother because he didn't want to work. Then, the mother went to the farm and did some work without telling him to go there. She also sold some vegetables at the market every morning. When she was working on the farm, he sometimes sent her the lunchbox. But he never prepared delicious food for her. When she was going to eat lunch that he brought, she saw only cooked rice without any curries. One day, he sent her the lunchbox and went back home. He saw a mother goat and a baby goat playing near the farm on his way back home. The baby goat was drinking breast milk. Then, he was thinking, "The mother and baby goat are playing happily and warmly. Mmm, I have been a trouble for my mom the whole time. The mother goat looks like she loves her baby so much. My mom also loves me so much. I was wrong. I might be like that baby goat when I was young." He regretted his actions towards his mother. He retraced his steps to apologize his mother. Unfortunately, he fell into a deep hole. His mother saw him falling in the deep hole. He told her, "Mom, I am a naught boy and always bully you. I was wrong. I am so sorry, mom. Please forgive me." But it was late. It was because the mud was flowing into the hole where he was inside. Then, he was buried alive and died. Transcription (La Ring) Kalang mi hta da ndai e gaida shan nu nga ai da. Collection title	Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description	Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
