Title Lapu hte nga kanu (The snake that sucks the breast of the cow) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
The story I am going to tell is about a snake and a cow. Long, long ago, there lived a man in a village. He had a cow too. He always put his cow on the field to eat grass. That cow also gave birth to many calves. There was a small cave beside the place where the cow ate grass. There was a snake inside that cave. And that snake was really lazy to find food. He secretly went up from the cow's leg and sucked the breast milk of the cow. Then the calves were getting thinner and thinner day by day. So, the owner of the cow went to the field where the cow ate grass. Then he saw that the snake was secretly sucking the breast milk of the cow. There was a saying that, "We have to act like that snake. If we act like him, we could get food without getting tired."

Ya ngai hkai na gaw lapu hte nga kanu a lam re nga ai. Ndai moi htinggaw la langai mi gaw nga dumsu kanu langai lu ai da. Nga dumsu kanu langai lu re yang she shi gaw shani shagu nga wudat kaw dumsu dai hpe e sa dat tawn ai da. Nga kanu dai gaw kasha ma hkrat sai da, kasha hkrat re yang she dai nga kanu shat sha ai makau kaw gaw lung pu kasha langai nga ai da. Lapu ndai lungpu kaw gaw lapu ma rawng ai da, dai lapu gaw shat tam sha lagawn ai she nrai i. Nga kanu kaw she atsawm sha lagaw hku lung na she nga kanu kaw na chyu sa lagu chyu chyu re ai da. Dai she lani mi na gaw nga kasha gaw lasi hkrai lasi wa re jang she nga madu gaw dai nga kanu shat sha sha re shara de sa yu sai da, sa yu yang she lapu gaw gau ngwi sha lung wa nna nga kanu a chyu hpe sa lagu chyu ya ya re ai da. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
