Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
A long time ago, Kachin women were untrustworthy and didn't keep their word. They didn't keep their word or were impropriety. There was a man in a village. One day, he went into the forest and cut the bamboo. He made thin bamboo strings and twisted them. He tried to make a human shape. After that, he kept it in a box. He told his wife, "I will go somewhere and do business for three years. Don't open this gate and box until I come back. Let's open it when I come back." After three years, he came back home. Meanwhile, the wife was tired of waiting for her husband. She thought, "He is not coming back! It takes too long for me to wait for him." It was just only a few months left to be three years. The man came back early. But his wife already opened the gate before he came back. Then, a troop of soldiers appeared and fought against Chinese soldiers. Chinese soldiers lost. Then, they were thinking of a method to win the war. They discussed, "We need a method. What shall we do?" One general said, "Let's call rain." The Chinese people agreed with him, so they played the drums to call rain. Then, the Kachin soldiers lost the Chinese soldiers. The Chinese soldiers were shocked, "The Kachin soldiers are not even humans! They are just hexed!" All Kachin soldiers were dead. When the man came back, he saw that there were no soldiers. Then, he was scared and ran away. The dog chased him when he ran away. He shouted, "Go away! Go back home. Don't follow me." But the dog kept following him when it got his smell. He was hiding at the bottom of the waterfall for seven days. The dog kept chasing him of his smell. Then it was barking incessantly at the waterfall. The Chinese soldiers were searching for him too. Then, they noticed the dog was barking constantly. When they checked, they saw the man there. Since he was energetic and powerful, he was fine even though he didn't eat any meals. The Chinese soldiers arrested him. In the past, the Kachin people had graves that had ditches around them. They arrested him for seven days and celebrated a victory. After seven days, they buried the man. They celebrated the victory for seven days. They buried all the Kachin people. They aimed not to have a Kachin leader for the Kachin people. The man had lost his life because of his wife. His wife couldn't keep her promise and keep her husband safe. I just would like to tell you about this.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
