Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
I'm going to tell a story about a smart parrot. Many years ago, there was a boy who lived in a village. One day, he went into the forest. Then he caught a parrot from the forest. He put the parrot in a cage and taught human language to it every day. He taught it like "Thank you very much! What have you eaten?..." He taught many words to it, and it could speak human language very well. One day, that boy went to the other village where his relatives lived because there was a ceremony. But then, there was a thief too. That thief saw that the house owner was going out of the house. After some time, that thief went into the house. He was stealing things from the house. The parrot knew to ask something like "What are you doing? or..." Then, the thief thought there was no one in this house since he saw the house owner went out. He thought he was alone in this house. He looked around the house, and there was no one inside. So he stole things from the house. He was about to leave the house after he had stolen. He was on his way of leaving the house. But there was a parrot which was outside the house. Then it asked the thief, "What are you doing?" The thief thought that there were people inside the house when he heard the voice. He was afraid. Then he put down all the things he stole from the house there and ran away quickly.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
