Description Translation (Htoi San)
I am telling a story about two friends who were jealous of each other. Two friends were very close, respectively, long ago. One of their friends wanted to open a shop as he desired to be rich. Another just stayed at home quietly and humbly with his parents and helped them. One day, the two friends chatted about this and that and went back home together. They walked along the main road and found an old black haversack on the road while they walked pretty far. As soon as they saw that old black haversack, they coerced against each other even before they opened what was inside. "I saw it first," the one said, and the other also said, "I also found this, and I will open it." They extorted and started to fight. While they were hitting each other forcibly with one another, an older man came to them. "Hey, two boys, I dropped a black bag here just now. Have you seen it?" asked the elderly man. The one who looked after his parents and was mature said, "Oh, Grandpa, is this the one?" The elderly person answered, "Yes, it is. That is the bag I am looking for." When he took the bag, another boy who wanted to be rich asked, "Grandpa, this is a money bag, isn't it?" The old man replied, "How could it be a money bag? I am very old and so poor. How can it be a money sack? I am living with sewing." "So this is a bag for buttons." The older man explained. The two friends had already fought and hit each other seriously. Then the elderly man told them, "You two fought and hit forcibly, so your buttons were taken off." "Therefore, I will give you the buttons from this bag half by half." Then the older adult shared the buttons equally and gave them to the two friends. Therefore, we cannot fight with our friends without computing when we see something.

Grai hkau ai manang rai she langai mi gaw shi gaw seng kaba hpaw mayu ai da lu su mayu ai da. Langai mi gaw nta kaw sha i asum nung rai na kanu ni hpe kawa ni hpe karum nna nga mayu ai manang yan lahkawng nga ai da. Dai manang yan lahkawng gaw lani mi na aten she shan lahkawng dai hku ndai ni tsun rai na she lam hku rai wa ai da. Lam kaba hku hkawm rai she wo tsawmra mi tsan ai kaw she tingsan dingsa achyang langai mi hkrat taw ai da. Dai tingsang dingsa achyang hpe she shan lahkawng gaw sha naw mu shi yang she rai pyi nsa hpaw yu ai sha shan lahkawng gaw kashun hkat ai da. "Ngai shawng mu ai" ngu yang she wora wa mung "Ngai mung mu ai ngai sa hpaw na" ngu kashun hkat na she shan lahkawng gaw ga law hkat ai da. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
