Title Grai teng man ai jahkrai ma (The honest orphan) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Once upon a time, there was a righteous orphan boy in a village. The story I am going to tell is 'A righteous orphan boy'. Once upon a time, there was an orphan boy. He never wanted to take the other's belongings. He made a living by collecting wood. He went to the alluvium and collected wood every day. One day, a nat (spirit) thought, "This orphan boy always comes here and collects wood. I will test him." He was waiting for the boy there. He made the boy's axe fall into the river. The orphan boy was crying and said, "I make a living just by collecting wood with the help of this axe. Now, my axe fell into the river. I can't find it anymore." The nat made himself visible to the boy and asked him, "Is this your axe?" He showed a good sharp axe. But the boy said, "No, my axe is not that great. Mine is just a simple one, not a good one." Then, the nat picked up a silver axe and showed it to the boy. He asked him, "Is this yours?" The boy said, "No, it's not mine." When the nat showed him another axe, he said, "No, it's not mine either." And he kept crying. Although the nat showed two or three sharp axes, he still said no. In the end, the nat showed the boy's old axe. At that time, the boy said happily, "Yes, that's my axe." The nat thought, "This orphan boy is very honest and righteous." And he gave all the gold or silver axes to the boy. The orphan boy was getting rich after selling those axes.
