Title Myi kret kret ai hkan nu a lam (The son of a blear-eyed mother) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
A long time ago, there were a mother and her daughter in a village. The daughter felt embarrassed because her mother had a serious eye discharge. So, she tried to find a mother who didn't have eye discharge. She sat at the market where many people walked and looked at everyone. And she thought, "Who will be my mom?" But she couldn't find anyone who was qualified to be her mother. When she saw a beautiful woman, she called her 'mom'. But no one cared for her. Meanwhile, her mother was at the back of some people and walking towards her. Her mother said, "My dear daughter, where are you sitting here?" Then, the daughter thought, "Oh, I was wrong. My mom really cares for me, but I dislike her because she has eye discharge." She regretted her action. Finally, she didn't feel embarrassed of her mother at all and lived happily with her.

Dai ma gaw kaba wa re shaloi gaw kanu myi kret nau kret jang she matsat gaw matsat kanu ngu gaw ai nkam nkaw mat wa rai na shi gaw myi kret nkret ai kanu hkan tam nna she tam chyu tam hkawm da lam kaw sa dung nga na tam ai hku nga. Lam masha grau lai ai kaw e sa dung nga na she "Nye nu shatai na num kaning re rai na kun" ngu na kanu tsawm tam ai nga sa tam dung nga rai yang she gara wa hpe yu yang mung kanu shatai na zawn nrai da. Grai tsawm tsawm re lai wa jang dai wa hpe bai nu ngu yang yang kadai mung lai kau da da sha arai nga rai yang she hpang jahtum e gaw shi kanu myi kret gaw le hpang htumpa kaw hkawm taw na hku rai nga. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
