Title Jahkrai num kasha ni (The prince and the poor girl) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Once upon a time, there was a prince in a country. The king told the prince to choose a princess from seven countries and to get married. But the prince didn't want to get married. He told the king, "Dad, I want to tour the land first." The king agreed with him and said, "Okay. But when you return home, you will have to choose the princess from twelve countries." The prince said, "Okay, I will." One day, the prince rode a horse and toured the land. Meanwhile, there lived an orphan girl on the outskirts. She felt so cold that she was sleeping in the fetal position on a big flat rock. The prince saw her sleeping there. He saw a beautiful girl sleeping there. He thought, "The girl is sleeping there nakedly. I will cover her with my gown." Then, he jumped off the horse and covered the girl with his royal gown. He put the gown on the girl. In the evening, the girl woke up and noticed there was a gown on her body. She wondered who had done it. She thought, "Perhaps, a nat spirit might put it on me. This is the cloth the nat gave me." She was just wandering around the outskirts areas and cooking some yams to fulfill her hunger. She went to the flat rock and slept there every day. She always put the royal gown on while she was sleeping there. Oh, she didn't wear the gown. Then, it was the day when the prince had to choose his consort. It was already a year that the prince made a promise to his father, the king. When the king told him to choose a girl to marry, the prince said, "Okay, I will get married." And he took his servants and went to the outskirts. When they arrived there, he let his servants wait there and went into the forest alone. He told his servants, "Wait for me here." Then, he went to the flat rock to find the girl and saw she was sleeping while putting the royal gown on. The prince put the beautiful royal gown on her and took her with his horse. And he went back to his servants. He told the servants, "Escort this lady." He let the girl ride the white elephant. And he rode the white horse. The prince took the girl to the king and said, "Father, she is the one I am going to get married to." The king asked him, "Where is she from?" (I forgot the country's name." The prince answered, "She is from that country." The king just said, "It is fine if you love her." Then, the prince got married to the orphan girl. He didn't choose any princess who the king had selected. The king asked the prince, "Where are her parents?" The prince answered politely, "They live far away from here. We don't need to give the bride wealth too." The king said, "Okay, I will just give valuable jewellery and clothes to her. And I will also give you half of my country. Rule the country where your wife has lived. If you want to come and live with me, it is okay to do that." Then, the prince and his consort ruled the country where she had lived. The orphan girl got married to the prince and lived with him happily forever.
