Description Translation (Roi Ban)
A Long time ago, there was an abnormal man in a village. His neighbor was a woman who had a baby. She could not carry the baby on her back. Her Baby crawled and played. The Baby was very playful and crawled. When the mother went to work in the farm, she said to the neighbor, "Hey! If You stay at home the whole day, please look after my baby". But the man was looking and just looking even though the baby was very playful. The baby took and ate dirty things. She crawled to the veranda. But the abnormal man just looked. When the baby crawled to the veranda and did not know it was the end, the baby fell from the porch, then died. In the evening, the woman asked her neighbor, "Where is my baby?" and he replied, "Your baby fell and died." The woman cried and said, "Why did my baby die like that?" She was angry at him. The neighbor said, "I looked your baby." "When I looked at the baby, she fell," the neighbor said. Though the baby died, the mother could not do anything but crying. This story teaches us that we must know about our neighbors. We have to be careful of ourselves. Her neighbor was a bit abnormal man. This is the end of the story.

Wa hkawm sha hkawm na grai kadau jang she e nang htingbu wa e nang nta nga yang gaw nye ma naw yu da ya u yaw, ngai yi de naw sa na ngu kau da yang wa she, yu sai da, yu sai da, ma yu ya nga yu tik tik, yu tik tik, dai hting bu wa gaw yu hkrai yu, ma gara de kadau sai nga hkan yu, gara de kadau hkan yu, hpa baw hta sha mung yu. Gara de sa wa mung yu hkrai yu nga yang she oh baranda de pru mat, baranda de gasup pru mat da. Dai shaloi gaw baranda gaw hto ma gaw nchye na baranda htum mat na dai de di hkrat na ma gaw si mat ai da. Dai shana de kanu bai wa nna she nye ma gaw ngu yang na ma oh kaw di hkrat nna si mat sai. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
