Title Hkaida nta damya shang ai lam (The robber who entered a house of a widow) with English translation
Description Translation (Roi Ban)
A Long time ago, there was a village where robbers often came to rob. There was one dowager in that village. She was pretty wealthy. There were robbers who often entered and took all the things and killed people in that village. One night, a rich widow, being asleep, waited for the robbers to enter her house. When the wealthy widow sat near the fireplace in the living room, she did not sleep yet. All the robbers were hiding downstairs. One robber farted at that time, so the wealthy widow was wake up. She thought that tonight there were robbers in her house and she was so scared. Even though she was afraid, she was pretended to benot frightened. Then She said, "You share Jare, Dap Kawp Ja tawp (rhyming words: Are you farting? Are you making the farting sound "put"?" As she was talking to the others. The robbers kept silent, and she asked again, "Share Jare, Dap kawp Ja Tawp, are you making the farting sound "Tit" or "put"?". She was pretending and asked again and again. "Your farting sound is Put! Or Tit"? as if the farting was made by "Dap Kawp" or "Share". That made all the robbers unable to control themselves and they laughed, so they run out of that house laughing. When all the robbers went out of the house, she also went out of the house quickly. Therefore she could escape from the danger of the robbers. The story finishes here. People must be clever in talking, and because of this, the widow could escape from the danger of the robbers. That's why we need to be wise in speaking, and it can save us from danger.

Dai she lana mi hta gaw dai gaida jan a nta kaw damya shang na matu gaida jan nta kaw yup ala nga ai hku re nga. Gaida jan gaw dap gawp koi wan naw kra jung nga yang e karai nyup shi ai majaw damya ni gaw le npu de shang makoi rawng nga ai da. Dai wa she damya la langai mi gaw hkyet tat ai hku re nga tit nga na hpyet tat dat yang gaida jan gaw dum sai da. Um dai na gaw damya sa sai re ngu na shi na myit kaw na she grai gaw hkrit ai da, retim grai sharang kau na nhkrit masu su rai ning ngu share jare nang dap kawp ja tawp nang hkyet tit nga nre i, hpyet put nga nre i ngu. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
