Title U tawng hte hka u a lam (The peacock and the water bird) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
The story is about a peacock and an egret. Once upon a time, the peacock and the egret were friends. One day, they were chatting about something. The peacock spread her tail and boasted about her beautiful tail. She told the egret, "What can be more beautiful than my tail in the world?" Then, the egret flew high into the sky and rested on the peacock's body. And she told her, "I don't have a beautiful tail like yours. I have a pair of wings which can take me to the sky, but you don't have. Your beautiful tail is just for showing up in front of others. Mine is not for showing up." They were arguing over whose tail or wings were more beautiful. The egret said, "Your tail is a kind of beauty, and my wings are useful too. I can fly away with these wings when I face any dangers." Then, the peacock tried to fly high. But she couldn't fly. She couldn't fly like the egret. Meanwhile, the egret tried to spread her wings as the peacock did. But her wings were not as beautiful as the peacock's. In the end, the egret told the peacock, "You can spread your tail very beautifully and attractively. My wings are not like yours. One of my abilities is that I can fly with my wings. Our abilities are different. You have the beauty, while I can fly high." In the end, they valued their different abilities and lived happily.
