Title Lawze hte kadawn a lam (The donkey and the field cricket) with English translation and notes
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
The story is about donkey and cricket. Many years ago, there was a donkey in a village. That donkey was not so clever and sharp. One day, it was eating grass on a beautiful plain peacefully. At that time, it heard the pleasant sound of a cricket. Then it thought that it wanted to sound like that. So it went to the cricket. Then it asked, "My friend, why are your voice so nice and pleasant? What do you eat to sound like that?" "I drink only snowflakes. Nothing else," the cricket answered the donkey. Then the donkey had an idea to do the same as the cricket. It decided to drink and eat snowflakes like the cricket. So it didn't eat the food that it usually ate. It didn't eat leaves or grass, and it didn't drink water too. It just found snowflakes and licked those. After some time, it died because it got hungry. In the end, it was dead instead of having a pleasant voice like the cricket. This is the end of the story.

Lani mi hta e dai lawze gaw tsin du grai tsawm ai pa layan shara mi kaw e shi wa u shat sha taw ai da e dai shaloi wa she e grai ngoi pyaw ai kadawn langai a shi a nsen hpe e na dat ai da. Dai shaloi she shi mung dai nsen zawn grai ngoi mayu ai myit rawng wa ai da. Dai majaw she dai shara gaw da ah dai kadawn gaw dai lawze wa she mahtan kadawn kaw sa wa ai da. Dai she jinghku wa e hpa majaw hpa baw sha na nang wa she hpa baw sha na dai ram ting asen pyaw ai ta ngu na san dat ai da, Dai kaw na san ai shaloi she dai kadawn wa gaw da ngai gaw numri sha hkan chyawp lu ai ngu na tsun ai da, Dai shaloi gaw dai lawze mung ah dai kadawn wa tsun ai hte maren sha shi mung da dai kadawn wa tsun ai hku na sha da sha na ngu na dai hku na myit lu ai da. Dai majaw shi gaw galoi mung shi sha ai lu sha ni shi sha ai baw hpan ni n sha mat ai da. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
