Title Kasha n kaja na kawng yeng byin mat ai lam (The buzz of the cicada originated from a poor woman) with English translation
Description Translation (by Seng Pan)
This story is about sinful children. Once upon a time, there lived an old lady who had many children in a village. She had protracted illness. So, she was not able to do anything. In their hillside field, her children planted corn. When the corns were ripe, they didn't take it back home for their mother. They went to the field and ate there by themselves. As the mother was so starving, she asked her children, "Dears, are the corns ripe?" They answered, "Not ready yet!" Not only that time but also whenever she asked, they always answered the corns weren't ripe yet. Therefore, one day she walked slowly to the field. When she saw only corn shanks were remained, she questioned, "Dears, did you eat all by yourselves?" "If you want to know, go and see at the end of field," her children answered. When she walked there, she found out the corns began to sprout again from the left-over seeds which were thrown by her children. Since she was so sad and depressed, she said, "From now on, if you want to see me, go and listen to "Yeng Kaeng" (it's the buzzing sound of cicada) in "Htingnai ga" (a dialect spoken in lowlands called Hingnai ga around Mohnyin and Mogaung). I will move to flatland." After that the poor old lady set off to the flatland. The buzz of cicada, "Koi yen Koi yen!" was come from the groan of that lady, "Goi ye nye kasha ni ye! (Oh, my poor kids!)" Therefore, the term "Koi yen!" was originated from the poor old lady.
