Title Kanu n ra ai lam (The man who does not like his mother) with English translation
Description Translation (Dau Hkawng)
Son, who did not want Mother. Once upon a time, there was a family in a village. The son did not want his mother and asked her to take care of his child. The child had been running back and front of the house all day. Grandmother said to his grandson, "Don't run around like that, You will fall." But the child did not listen to her and he just kept running. Soon, in the evening, the child fell to the ground and died. Thereupon, "Oh My God! My God!" grandmother cried out and groaned. The parents returned as she held the dead child, "You killed my son on purpose and deliberately" as the father of a child cried out and beat his mother without stopping. The grandmother said, "Son, I didn't do it." She said to her son. "Why should I kill my Grandson?" Even though she explained a lot, the son continued to beat his mother. The mother could no longer felt the pain, and said to his son, "Take me to the cemetery and kill me there." "Let me die where your father died," mother continued to her son. "Take me there!" shouted mother. Then, "Let's go," the son replied to his mother, and he beat his mother to death in the cemetery. At that moment, the ground cracked, and the earth swallowed her son. This is the end of the story that I am telling.

Kanu nra ai lam. Moi shawng de mare langai mi kaw masha htinggaw mi nga ma ai da. Dai gaw kanu hpe nra ai ma woi shangun ai. Ma dai gaw shani tup nbang de kagat, ndaw de pru wa re na ma e hkum rai law di hkrat na ngu yang nmadat ai shani tup jan du wa hkra dinghtan hkrai dinghtan, shana de maga de gaw kaja wa n bang de dinglai mat wa na di hkrat nna si mat ai da. Shaloi kawoi dwi gaw goisha goisha nga na sa woi la na pawn tawn yang kasha yen shi a kasha hte kanam bai wa ai shaloi dingsang kawoi dwi e nang gaw nye kasha hpe dan re na sat kau ai, nang dingsa nan abyen sat kau ai re ndai nga na kasha wa gaw kanu hpe abyen hkrai abyen yang kanu gaw nu sha e ngai na kasha e ngai n abyen sat ai. Kashu she re gaw ngai gaw hpa rai na abyen sat na rai. Ngu tim nang sat kau ai re ngu na abyen she abyen re na kanu gaw nhkam lu na kasha wa hpe sa lup wa de sa sa kau rit. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
