Title Shinggyim masha ni hka lu la ai lam (How humans got water) with English translation
Description Translation (Keita Kurabe)
Now, I will tell a story about how humans got water. Once upon a time, humans destroyed a beehive to eat the honey. The bee got angry and it made the water dangle in the sky. The human elders apologized to the bee, saying "Please bring the water down from the sky. If you bring it down, we will give you a necklace as a reward." Then, the bee brought the water down. So, humans gave it a necklace. That's why to this day, there is a necklace around the bee's neck. When the bee tried to bring the water down from the sky, the water got stuck on the jungle vines. Because no one got the water down from the jungle grass, the humans asked the leech to do it. The leech brought the water down from the vine. So the humans gave it a reward as well. As a reward, they gave it a permission to suck human blood. When the leech brought the water down from the vine, this time the water went into the ground. So the humans asked the crab, "Bring the water to the earth for us." The crab brought the water to the ground. So the humans gave it claws to hold foods. That's why the crab has claws today. This is the end of the story.

Dai shaloi lagat mung masin pawt ai hte anhte shinggyin masha ni lu nga ai hka hpe e ntsa de noi kau ya ai da. Dai shaloi ndai mungding salang ni hku nna lagat hpe bai tawngban ai majaw, e lagat e anhte lu ai hka hpe she shayu ya rit, nang hpe e kachyi hte shagrau na ngu di na shingbai la ya bai bai re na du kaw bai mat ai, shingbai la e anhte shinggyin masha ni lu ai hka hpe shayu ya ai majaw lagat shingbai la dai hpe e kachyi jaw ai da. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
