Title Palam la a lam (The butterfly) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
The story I am going to tell is about a butterfly. Many years ago, a butterfly laid an egg on a leaf. The egg hatched out since it got the sunlight and fresh air day by day. There came out a caterpillar from the eggshell. That caterpillar moved and moved, and ate every leaf that it could eat. One day, the caterpillar felt so full and wanted to take a rest. Then it made a cocoon with its phlegm and stayed inside there. It became a pupa. Soon, its cocoon was broken out, and a butterfly came out. It had got wings too. The caterpillar turned into a beautiful butterfly.

Moi kalang mi na hta palam la gaw alap langai kaw sha adi di tawn da shaloi, dai adi wa she, dai adi gaw da lani hte lani wa jan ni lu ai, nbung ni lu wa di i, dai jan ni lu wa adi wa she shi hkrai shi kraw pru wa ai, kraw pru wa ai dai kata kaw na she shingtai ngu ai langai pru wa ai, dai shingtai wa da, shi gaw shingtai gaw pru wa na, shi hkrai sa hkawm na nga ai, oh ra kaw namlaw namlap ni sha, ndai kaw di sha, namlaw ndai shingtai ni shanhte ni mai sha ai baw arung arai mahkra shi gaw dai hku sha sha na nga ai. Shingjut shingtai dai hku sha na nga re na lani mi shi gaw grai pu ba na hkring sa ai ten hta shi na panyen hte shi gaw shi na atsip ni hpe galaw la na ngu na hku nga, atsip ni galaw la di, dai kata kaw shi gaw rawng di nga, dai hku rawng na nga, kade nna ai ateng hta wa shi gaw dai atsip kaw na she kalang bai atsip ni ga kapran wa na she dai shani kaw na gaw shi singkaw bai tu wa na palam la tai wa sai da.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of a community-based collaborative fieldwork project in northern Myanmar. As of March 19, 2025, a total of 2,491 stories are available, accompanied by 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,584 translations.

Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Translations were prepared by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
