Title Hpaga num lahkawng a lam (Caterpillar spirit) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Once upon a time, there were two businesswomen in a village. They got on well with each other. They traded goods on foot, not like these days. These days, we trade goods by car. They had been trading goods from one place to another. One day, they went to another place to trade things. On their way, it was raining cats and dogs. So, one woman said, "My friend, I think we can't continue our journey now. Let's take shelter from the rain. Let's rest at that field over there." While they were taking a rest, one woman fell asleep. The rain was heavy. But another woman couldn't sleep. She was just gazing. She was thinking, "Seem like the rain will not stop. When will the rain stop pouring?" She saw a caterpillar trying to cross the drain. It was difficult for the caterpillar to cross the drain because there was no bridge that connected the two sides. She saw that and felt pity for it. So, she broke one branch and put it on the drain as a bridge. Then, the caterpillar could cross the drain by that branch. When the rain was going to stop, she woke her friend up. She said, "My friend, wake up. The rain has stopped. We need to reach the village before it gets dark." The woman who was taking a nap got up and talked about her dream. She said, "My friend, I had a dream when I was sleeping." The other woman asked her, "What kind of dream is it?" She said, "In my dream, there was heavy rain. I was trying to cross the river. It was difficult for me to cross it, but a woman helped me. She helped me by building a bridge for me. It was not easy for me to cross the river then. Thanks to her, I could reach the other side of the river." The other woman was surprised and thought, "She is telling me exactly the same as I helped the caterpillar. She is a witch. She is possessed by a caterpillar. I have just heard before, but I have never met someone like that. My friend is possessed by a caterpillar (a kind of witch)!" Then, she was careful when she talked to her friend and continued their journey.
